I was originally going to do Justin Timberlake’s new track “Suit and Tie” for today’s post, but then I came across this:
Monarchy are a music duo from London who class their sound as “glacial pop with a throbbing undercurrent of humanity“. According to their Facebook page, their debut performance was transmitted into space, making them the first band to be broadcast live into space…which is pretty cool, really.
Despite the fact that they have performed at places like Coachella and Love Box, I hadn’t actually heard of them until I came across this new track. That’s mainly because electronic music (which is essentially what they do) isn’t my favourite genre, and so I don’t tend to keep close tabs on that scene. Having said that, after stumbling across “Disintegration” I decided to check out some of their other stuff – such as this performance - and I really enjoyed it, so I shall definitely be listening to more of their material!

“Disintegration” is rather good, and not just because it features Dita Von Teese (whose vocals, by the way, aren’t too shabby); it’s well-produced, dynamic and catchy. In fact, I’ve had the hook stuck in my head since I first heard the song!
At times, the video is a bit…well, weird. The mass of naked-esque bodies reminds me of the Sanex advert that always sort of makes my skin crawl a little bit. But then it cuts to shots of DvT ripping her dress off and generally looking gorgeous so, y’know…yay.
I love, love, LOVE Dita Von Teese! I know a lot of people argue that her look is down to a great deal of make-up, so it ‘doesn’t count’. But I think it’s more than that with her: she just exudes a sort of graceful self-assurance that I think is the key to what makes her so attractive. Confidence is sexy, amirite?
